Bitcoin wallet activity returned to focus after an address inactive since November 2013 moved 500 BTC on May 10.
The transfer was worth about $40 million based on Bitcoin’s recent trading range. The wallet had held the coins for nearly 12.5 years before moving its full balance.
Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Transfers Full Balance
The wallet was created on November 27, 2013, and moved its entire 500 BTC balance at block height 948,822. Bitcoin traded near $923 when the coins first entered the address, placing the original value at about $461,500.
With Bitcoin trading between $80,500 and $82,458, the same stash has gained nearly 87 times in value. The move highlights the long-term returns held by early Bitcoin owners who kept coins untouched through several market cycles.
Old Bitcoin Supply Shows Fresh Movement
The 500 BTC transfer was not an isolated event. Between blocks 948,694 and 948,822 on May 10, dormant wallets created between 2013 and 2017 moved 859.13 BTC, worth about $69.47 million.
Six transactions totaling 319.13 BTC came from wallets funded in 2017. Four more transactions moved 10 BTC each from wallets created in 2014. These transfers suggest that more old Bitcoin supply is becoming active in 2026.
Market Watches Next Wallet Action
The recent transfer has not triggered visible panic selling. Blockchain data also has not shown the 500 BTC moving into any known exchange deposit address.
Traders are now watching the next transaction. If the coins remain in private wallets, the move may point to custody changes. However, a transfer to an exchange could raise concerns about possible selling pressure.
Dormant wallet activity matters because old coins often attract market attention. Earlier reports showed a 2010-era miner wallet moving 2,000 BTC to Coinbase in January. Another wallet dormant for 12 years moved 1,000 BTC in September 2025 before a Federal Reserve rate decision.
The latest 500 BTC transfer adds another major case to that trend. For now, the market response remains calm, but traders will continue tracking whether these coins stay idle or move toward trading venues.
