President Donald Trump will address the Digital Asset Summit (DAS) in New York City on Thursday, March 20, at 10:40 AM ET.
This marks the first time a sitting U.S. president will speak at a cryptocurrency-focused conference. The speech will be held at North Javits and streamed live on X and YouTube.
U.S. government signals interest in Bitcoin reserves
The announcement follows recent remarks by Bo Hines, Executive Director of the White House’s President’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets. Speaking at DAS on Tuesday, Hines confirmed that the U.S. government is considering acquiring Bitcoin as part of a newly created Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. He emphasized that accumulating assets for the nation is a priority for the administration.
Hines compared the strategy to how countries build gold reserves. He stated that there is no specific limit on the amount of Bitcoin the U.S. may acquire, reflecting the administration’s commitment to increasing national holdings. Lawmakers, including Senator Cynthia Lummis and Congressman Nick Begich, have proposed legislation for the U.S. to acquire 1 million BTC over the next five years.
Bitcoin becomes part of national financial strategy
The Trump administration has incorporated Bitcoin into its broader economic policy. Earlier this month, the president signed an executive order establishing the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. This move aligns with Trump’s promises to integrate Bitcoin into national financial planning.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer addressed the summit on Wednesday, expressing confidence that the proposed Bitcoin acquisition bill will pass before the current congressional session concludes. If approved, the legislation would mark a historic shift in how the U.S. government approaches digital assets.
High-profile speakers to join the event
In addition to Trump, several key figures in the cryptocurrency industry will participate in the summit. Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of MicroStrategy, will deliver a keynote speech and discuss corporate Bitcoin strategies and increasing institutional adoption with Bitcoin historian Pete Rizzo. Their conversation will focus on these topics.
A panel discussion on Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will also occur. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart will moderate a session featuring BlackRock’s Head of Digital Assets, Robbie Mitchnick, and Nasdaq’s Head of U.S. Equities & Exchange-Traded Products, Giang Bui. The panel will explore the impact of Bitcoin ETFs and the evolving role of institutional investors in the cryptocurrency market.
