OpenAI co-founder John Schulman has left his position at competitor company Anthropic months after joining. According to a Bloomberg report, Schulman submitted a resignation letter, after joining Anthropic in the summer.
The former OpenAI man left the company last summer, joining Anthropic after the completion of the development of ChatGPT. John Schulman is yet to make a statement addressing his departure from the company.

In a statement by the Head of Science at Anthropic Jared Kaplan, he wished Schulman the best for the future, mentioning that he will be missed at the firm. “We are sad to see John go, but we fully support his decision to pursue new opportunities and wish him all the very best,” he said. Schulman left OpenAI after nine years at the company, with his departure coinciding with the day Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against the firm.
OpenAI still has two of its founding members, Ilya Sutskever and Trevor Blackwell working at other companies now. Another co-founder Durk Kingima also left tgge company in 2018, joining Google’s Deepmind before later making the switch to Anthropic in October 2024.
