The pre-order date for Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States has been revealed in a leak, with a leading insider noting that it will begin on April 9. However, Best Buy Canada mentioned that it will start accepting pre-orders on April 2, but has since removed the blog post.
The insider, Henderson, mentioned emails and documents from a large retailer. He added that the retailer expects the stock to sell out on April 9, despite Nintendo importing only a significant amount in the country. Henderson’s report suggests a staggered timeline across different regions. If his claim is accurate, the Switch 2’s pre-order schedule will vary by market.
Nintendo Switch 2 could be the most expensive yet
Best Buy Canada did not offer any pricing data, so it is expected that the cost will remain unconfirmed till the April 2 event. Analysts have also mentioned that the Switch 2 might be available by June 2025. Many observers at the latest Game Developers Conference believed Nintendo’s new console would hit shelves in June. However, it may launch on different days across the globe, similar to the 2017 Switch. That system took two more years to appear in China, and it arrived in Brazil only in 2020.
The Switch is expected to be the priciest Nintendo device yet. It is coming after the original Switch which launched at $299, a figure that has remained largely unchanged throughout its lifecycle. Some experts have mentioned that the price could be around $399 to $499, with the $399 making it cheaper than the Super Nintendo Entertainment System when adjusted for inflation. The machine was released at $199 in 1990, but currently costs $459 today.
The launch is also expected to unveil the initial lineup of games of the Switch 2, including all the first-party titles set to accompany the console at launch. Meanwhile, Henderson’s April 9 claim has sparked plenty of talk online. But then, the silence from Nintendo may end on April 2, that is if the documents and other related documents hold up, which means that Americans can start placing their orders a week later. The rush to secure the device could be intense if the supply is not on pace with the demand, especially with Henderson’s report of a one-day sell-out.
