Coinbase has become the Golden State Warriors and the Chase Center’s official cryptocurrency partner, filling the void FTX left after its highly publicized collapse.
This partnership positions Coinbase as the NBA team’s exclusive “crypto platform and blockchain ally,” enhancing its role in the Warriors’ digital engagement strategy.
Fan engagement initiatives
Under this new partnership, fans will benefit from various incentives. Attendees at selected home games, particularly those against the Memphis Grizzlies on January 4 and the Milwaukee Bucks on March 20 can expect special giveaways, both physical and digital. Mike Kitts, the Warriors’ Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the team’s commitment to leveraging blockchain technology to enhance fan interaction, whether at the arena or through remote platforms. This initiative aims to deepen the connection between fans and the team while embracing the evolving digital engagement landscape.
Coinbase expands AI capabilities
In addition to its new partnership, Coinbase has introduced an innovative tool called “Based Agent.” This feature simplifies cryptocurrency users’ process of creating AI-driven agents. In a recent video shared on X, developer Lincoln Murr explained that users can set up their own AI agents with a crypto wallet in under three minutes. The tool enables tasks ranging from token swaps to staking, all through a pre-built template designed for ease of use. To get started, users need an API key from Coinbase’s developer program a key from OpenAI, and must fork the Replit template.
Coinbase has constructed Based Agent using its software development kit (SDK), with support from OpenAI and Replit. This development is aligned with the growing trend of blockchain automation, which allows users to automate tasks that traditionally require manual intervention. This focus on automation reflects a broader shift within the cryptocurrency space towards enhancing user experience and operational efficiency.
AI’s role in cryptocurrency transactions
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has been a vocal proponent of integrating AI into the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Recently, he offered the AI chatbot Truth Terminal a wallet, suggesting a future where AI could control cryptocurrency transactions independently. Armstrong pointed out that AI agents cannot currently obtain traditional bank accounts. However, they can access crypto wallets, allowing them to execute transactions without human oversight. He stated that using stablecoins like USDC on the Base layer would enable AIs to interact with merchants and other AIs instantly and without geographical limitations.
Armstrong’s vision emphasizes that giving AI agents their wallets could significantly enhance their economic participation. He believes that AI should have the means to transact autonomously, similar to how humans engage in commerce. This shift could revolutionize how transactions are conducted within the cryptocurrency realm.
