Epic Games has secured a legal victory against a professional Fortnite player. The player, Patrick Bamford, was issued a lifetime ban because he allowed another player to take charge of his account to enter the Fortnite Championship Series (FNCS).
In its statement, Epic Games noted that it will not condone cheating or taking legal action against the player. The player has also been forced to return all the prizes that he won in the tournament. According to a report, the returned prizes were donated to Child’s Play Charity, a body that funds games for children in hospitals.
Bamford was also forced to issue a public apology, which he did on YouTube. The company has since reposted the video to a wider audience, warning the community of the dangers of cheating. He mentioned that “cheating in tournaments ruins the fun for the players who earned their spot in tournaments.” Bamford also promised not to engage in such acts anymore.
Cheater returns winnings to Epic Games
According to his statement, Bamford mentioned that he shared his account with another player Forbes to qualify for the championship tournament that took place in 2023. The biggest tournament had a prize pool of $4 million. However, Bamford did not disclose the amount that he returned to the company.
Billionaire and X CEO Elon Musk also shared his Diablo 4 account, remaining unapologetic about the move without facing any consequences. The company will release its Chapter 6 Season 2 on Friday, February 21, with the upcoming Lawless including a Sub-Zero skin. Other reports also claimed that Fast and Furious are also in talks for a collaboration.
Reports also claimed that the company achieved a milestone in its partnership with Disney. The project involves a $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games made by Disney.
