Gaming giant Nintendo has announced plans to further its relationship with other software publishers in the industry. The company revealed this as part of its strategy at a recent policy brief meeting for the fiscal year 2024. Nintendo intends to use the strategy to expand its platform in the gaming sector.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa presented the Q2 financial results and corporate management briefing for the fiscal year 2024 on November 6. During the meeting, the Japan-based gaming company unveiled the business plan it wants to implement.
Nintendo teases increased partnerships with software firms
During the meeting, the president of the gaming company emphasized the need to strengthen relationships with software publishers. In other to achieve that goal, the company will improve its development environment up to standard to provide the needed support for game developers and publishers.
Nintendo also used the opportunity to unveil its dedicated website for game developers and publishers, the Nintendo Development Portal. Developers will use the portal to make games for Switch, thereby increasing Nintendo’s game catalog.
In the meeting, Furukawa highlighted some of the developers that the gaming company will work with. They include Bandai Namco, Electronic Arts, Konami, Cygames, Nippon Columbia, and Idea Factory. Others are Falcom, 505 Games, Square Enix, Capcom, and Microsoft.
Furukawa mentioned that most of the listed companies just came to their attention after the release of the Nintendo Switch. He also said the firm will include support for several middleware, including gaming engines and affordable development kits. It presently supports Unreal Engine 4, Unity, and other engines.
Nintendo also wants to focus on indie games due to their constant appearance on its download charts. Nintendo hopes that those changes could spur its growth and aid its entrance into emerging markets.
Nintendo announcement sparks speculation
