T. Rowe Price has officially submitted its petition to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to initiate its first actively managed cryptocurrency Exchange-Traded Fund.

The proposed fund will provide exposure to a variety of digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Should it be approved, the ETF will list on the NYSE Arca under an as-yet-unannounced ticker symbol.

The asset manager with $1.77 trillion is also trying to provide investors with access to the diversified cryptocurrency market and aims to outperform the FTSE Crypto U.S. Listed Index. It is the first time the company has made a direct venture into the digital asset space, marking the growing recognition of cryptocurrencies by conventional financial institutions.

A multi-asset fund that is actively managed

The SEC filing stated that the Active Crypto ETF will have five to fifteen cryptocurrencies. Some of the assets are Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, Dogecoin (DOGE), Cardano (ADA), Avalanche (AVAX), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Litecoin (LTC). The composition might change according to the market environment and regulatory direction.

The fund will maintain a portion of its assets in cash, stablecoins, or liquid investments with short durations, such as bank deposits, to ensure sufficient liquidity. Rowe Price Sponsor LLC will manage T. Fund operations, trading, and general strategy. The trustee will be CSC Delaware Trust Company, which will ensure adherence to the regulations, and T. Rowe Price Associates will assume the accounting, record-keeping, and reporting responsibilities.

Possibility of staking and income generation

The filing also highlights a future strategy to incorporate staking activities, provided there is explicit approval from the regulators. Staking has the potential to enable the ETF to generate additional revenue in support of blockchain network operations. Nonetheless, the company stated that it will not proceed until the SEC establishes a definitive framework for such practices.

The actively managed structure will enable investment experts to observe market trends, evaluate volatility, and adjust positions to capitalize on long-term growth opportunities. The strategy will distinguish the fund based on passive ETFs that merely track a specific cryptocurrency index.

Increasing institutional demand for crypto ETFs

The action by T. Rowe Price is in response to the increase in demand for exposure to digital assets among institutional and retail clients. BlackRock, Fidelity, and Grayscale have already launched Bitcoin ETFs, with a cumulative investment collection of over $150 billion. Later in the year, Ethereum ETFs were approved and soon had amassed $23 billion in assets.

Other companies, such as VanEck and ProShares, have not been left behind, as they have also filed their own multi-asset crypto ETFs. The SEC is evaluating over 90 crypto ETF applications, including individual assets and diversified digital funds.

The filing by T. Rowe Price is another notable move towards an emerging intersection of traditional finance and digital assets. The conservative yet strategic nature of the company is an indication that conservative financial institutions are reaching a point where they are willing to consider cryptocurrency as a valid and regulated investment opportunity in the United States.

The post T.

According to a recent report by asset manager VanEck, blockchain revenues declined by 16% in September as the volatility of digital asset markets subsided.

The reduction in network charges in popular blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, and Tron, signaled a decline in trading levels and a decrease in high-priority transactions.

Major Networks See Lower Revenues

Ethereum network revenue also declined by 6%, as reported by VanEck, with Solana experiencing an 11% decline over the month. The most significant decrease in activity occurred in Tron, with a 37% drop in network fees. This drop was after a governance proposal was introduced in August, which reduced transaction fees by more than half. Consequently, the daily payments to the block producers of Tron, known as Super Representatives, fell to $5 million on September 7, marking the lowest level in over a year.

This reduction in revenue in these networks has been linked to a decrease in overall cryptocurrency market volatility. Ether lost 16% of its volatility compared to Bitcoin’s 26%. Blood volatility in Solana also decreased by 16%. Reduced market movement also implied reduced arbitrage opportunities, and traders paid less in fees. According to VanEck analysts, when volatility decreases, it typically indicates lower on-chain activity and reduced demand for block space.

Tron Remains the Top Revenue Generator

Though the figure dropped in September, Tron remained the top blockchain in terms of total revenue. According to the data provided by Token Terminal, the network has earned $3.6 billion in the last year. Tron received more protocol fees than Ethereum (435 million to 365 million, respectively) in the past 90 days.

The leader of Tron, Justin Sun, has recently highlighted the network’s success, noting that it generates more revenue than Ethereum, approximately 50% more. He stated that, given current trends, Tron could become the most profitable blockchain in the world, with its annual protocol revenue potentially reaching billions of dollars. Comparatively, Ethereum generated approximately $1 billion in revenue during the same time, although its market capitalization is larger at $539 billion.

Stablecoin Settlements Drive Tron Growth

Further control of Tron has been bolstered by the growing role of the coin in transactions involving stablecoins. Approximately half of the USDT supply is currently on the Tron network. Based on statistics published by RWA. Stablecoins have become a significant aspect of blockchain applications, emerging as a leading force behind cross-border payments and on-chain settlements.

It is also reported that China is contemplating developing a stablecoin based on the yuan to facilitate the internationalization of the currency. According to sources reporting to Reuters, this would be a significant policy change in the country, as it would prohibit the trading and mining of cryptocurrencies, similar to what was done in 2021.

The reduction in revenues through blockchain shows the relationship between market volatility and network activity. Ethereum and Solana experienced relative declines, but Tron had a more pronounced impact on trading, particularly due to its fee change. Nevertheless, as it gains increasing stablecoin dominance, Tron remains the blockchain profit leader, despite the frothy crypto market.

The post Blockchain Revenues Drop 16% in September as Market Volatility Declines first appeared on Coinfea.

VanEck has officially filed for regulatory approval to launch an Avalanche (AVAX) exchange-traded fund (ETF), marking the firm’s first attempt at an AVAX-focused investment product.

The filing comes just days after VanEck registered an AVAX Trust, signaling its growing interest in cryptocurrency investment opportunities. If approved, this ETF would track the price of AVAX, the native token of the Avalanche network, while deducting operational expenses.

VanEck enters the expanding Crypto ETF market

VanEck’s move to introduce an AVAX ETF adds to the growing list of cryptocurrency-based investment products. The filing, submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is the first of its kind for Avalanche. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart noted that while the trust registration gained attention earlier, this is VanEck’s first formal submission to the SEC.

The firm has been exploring different ETF structures, including those focused on cryptocurrency exchanges, mining companies, and blockchain payment providers. Introducing an Avalanche ETF indicates VanEck’s strategy of expanding its digital asset offerings beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Crypto ETFs face market and regulatory challenges

Despite increasing interest in digital asset ETFs, market conditions remain challenging. Bitcoin ETFs have recorded several weeks of outflows, while Ethereum funds experience reduced institutional demand. Broader concerns about the U.S. economy and regulatory uncertainty have contributed to bearish sentiment in the crypto sector.

The SEC has also delayed decisions on other cryptocurrency ETFs, including those linked to Solana (SOL) and XRP. While the agency has previously approved Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, there is no guarantee that AVAX will receive the same treatment. Even if the fund gains approval, investor demand may remain uncertain in the short term.

Regulatory landscape shows signs of change

Recent developments indicate a shift in the SEC’s approach to cryptocurrency regulation. The agency has made policy adjustments in the past few weeks, including withdrawing controversial crypto accounting guidance and dismissing enforcement actions against key industry players. Additionally, the SEC has established a dedicated crypto task force, signaling potential regulatory shifts in the industry.

After VanEck filed to make AVAX an exchange-traded fund (ETF) there was a temporary price boost but the actual future market response remains uncertain. Success of the fund depends entirely on regulatory approval and market demand if plans for its implementation continue.

The post VanEck Files for SEC Approval of First Avalanche (AVAX) ETF first appeared on Coinfea.

VanEck CEO Jan Van Eck has predicted that Bitcoin could hit $300,000 per unit. According to his interview with CNBC, Van Eck believes the asset could hit half of gold’s market capitalization when it eventually happens. The CEO said his prediction was a reasonable base assumption but failed to tie it to any real-life theory.

Data from CoinGecko showed that Bitcoin briefly traded at $77,000, smashing a new all-time high, before trading down at $76,000. Van Eck also talked about investors entering into the Bitcoin ETF market to grab a slice of the pie. His theory is supported by JP Morgan analysts as they claim that the ETF craze is sustained and it could be the same way by next year.

Bitcoin could clinch its ‘digital gold’ status

Van Eck did not paint a picture of how Bitcoin could go on to replace gold in the long run, but he said the asset is closing in on the precious metal as a store of value. He added that while he doesn’t see it yet, others believe that Bitcoin could replace gold as a store of value very soon.

However, Van Eck hopes that the emergence of Donald Trump as the new president could push bi-partisan support for the asset. He clarified that the move will help Bitcoin become an asset worth investing in, thereby helping its predicted rise. CoinGecko data shows that Bitcoin has surged by 15%, gaining $10,000 in the process, since Trump was announced as president on November 5.

Van Eck’s comments showed that he also believes in the rapidly growing blockchain technology. He noted that crypto-based stocks like Coinbase and meme coins have grown. However, he feels the market still prefers established digital assets like Bitcoin.

The VanEck CEO said that Bitcoin’s rise this year has been particularly driven by investor’s commitment. He sees Bitcoin as a store of value, an asset that acts like digital gold. While others like Microstrategy boss Michael Saylor have always likened Bitcoin to digital gold, others like Peter Schiff have always been against the theory, branding it ‘impossible.’

BlackRock Bitcoin ETF leapfrogs its Gold ETF

Over the last few days, BlackRock’s IBIT Bitcoin ETF has registered increased trading and inflow volumes. According to Farside and DefiLlama, the increase in both volumes can be credited to the result of the United States presidential election.

Per recent performance data, IBIT was also performing better than the company’s iShares Gold ETF. The data showed an increase in IBIT’s growth over the last few months. The ETF reached a six-month high in October and has maintained a strong momentum.

DefiLlama data showed it experienced a little upward spike after Trump’s victory. Farside data also showed that Bitcoin ETFs led by IBIT saw a surge in single-day inflows a day after the re-election. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink also sees Bitcoin as an alternative to Gold. Fink’s reason is that he sees Bitcoin as an asset class. He says if transparency, acceptability, and other analytics are worked on, the asset’s utility could be extended.

The post VanEck CEO tips Bitcoin hit half of gold’s market cap first appeared on Coinfea.

The recent filings, recorded on July 8, mark the initiation of the SEC’s review process, which could lead to the first spot of Solana ETFs being traded on Cboe’s platform.

Review and market response

The applications submitted are a first of their kind for spot Solana ETFs and follow an earlier Form S-1 filing by VanEck and 21Shares with the SEC on June 27. Since the initial announcement, the market has had a noticeable response.

The price of Solana (SOL) has been in a recovery phase, currently trading at $141.05, showing a modest increase of 0.8% over the past 24 hours despite a month-on-month decrease of 11%.

Matthew Sigel, VanEck’s Head of Digital Asset Research, shared insights in a Bloomberg interview on July 4 about the potential influence of upcoming elections on the SEC’s decisions regarding Solana ETFs.

Matthew Sige highlighted concerns over SOL’s lack of futures market regulation, noting it as a potential obstacle. Sigel remains optimistic, however, suggesting that the November elections bring changes to the SEC that favor the approval of Solana ETFs, particularly if there is a change in leadership from the current SEC chair, Gary Gensler.

Sigel also noted that the influence of crypto voters could be pivotal in shaping the regulatory landscape, echoing sentiments previously expressed by billionaire Mark Cuban and Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas regarding the need for more tailored crypto regulations.

Progress with ether ETFs

The dialogue around Solana ETFs comes alongside continued advancements with Ether ETFs. On May 23, the SEC approved Cboe, NASDAQ, and NYSE applications to list and trade spot Ether ETFs. VanEck welcomed this approval, praising the SEC’s acknowledgment of Ether as a decentralized commodity. This series of approvals enhances the prospects for further cryptocurrency integration into mainstream financial products.

Broader implications for the Crypto sector

Earlier this year, the SEC supported the crypto sector by approving several Bitcoin ETFs in January. This trend is seen as a positive development for the crypto market, with entities like Grayscale actively increasing their Bitcoin holdings during market dips. The proactive stance of regulatory bodies in accommodating digital assets through ETFs suggests a maturing approach toward cryptocurrency regulation, heralding a more expansive future for such financial products.

The post Cboe Proposes Solana ETFs in Collaboration with VanEck and 21Shares first appeared on Coinfea.

VanEck, a prominent investment management firm, has recently submitted an application for the first Solana Spot Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) in the United States, signaling a significant step towards integrating Solana more deeply into the investment landscape.

This move aims to leverage Solana’s user-friendly advantages over competitors like Ethereum. If approved, the proposed ETF, the VanEck Solana Trust, will be listed on the Cboe BZX Exchange.

VanEck Solana trust overview

The VanEck Solana Trust is designed to closely track the value of Solana (SOL) minus the Trust’s operational expenses. The Trust will utilize the MarketVectorTM Solana Benchmark Rate to ensure accurate tracking, which aggregates price data from leading SOL trading platforms. This rate is maintained by MarketVector Indexes GmbH, an affiliate of VanEck Digital Assets, LLC, which serves as the Trust’s sponsor.

The Trust’s operations include vital partners such as the Delaware Trust Company, serving as the Trustee, and a designated SOL Custodian responsible for holding the Trust’s Solana assets. However, the Trust will abstain from staking, meaning it will not participate in mining or transaction validation processes that could yield additional SOL.

Share issuance and redemption

VanEck’s Solana Trust plans to continually offer Shares, having registered an indefinite number with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Transactions involving these Shares will occur in blocks called “Baskets,” which are valued based on the net asset value (NAV) of the Shares they contain, accounting for Sponsor fees and other costs.

The Trust has established a purely cash-based mechanism for share redemption. “In cases of cash redemption, the Sponsor will coordinate the sale of SOL corresponding to the Basket’s value to a pre-selected Liquidity Provider, with the proceeds then distributed from the Trust’s cash account held by the Cash Custodian to the Authorized Participant,” the firm stated. This method ensures that both subscriptions and redemptions are handled exclusively in cash, facilitating smoother transactions for Authorized Participants

Regulatory insights and market forecast

The Trust’s shares are registered under the Securities Act of 1933. However, the Trust itself does not fall under the regulatory scope of the Investment Company Act 1940, nor is it considered a commodity pool as defined by the Commodity Exchange Act. Consequently, the Trust’s Sponsor is not subject to oversight by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

This application comes as VanEck has previously launched a Bitcoin spot ETF and is seeking approval for an Ethereum spot ETF. Despite these developments, the Solana ETF faces unique challenges, notably the absence of a futures ETF and previous classifications by the SEC that deemed SOL security. This factor influenced platforms like Robinhood to delist SOL.

James Seyffart, an ETF analyst from Bloomberg, suggests that the outcome of this Solana ETF application might pave the way for further similar applications, contingent upon shifts in leadership at the SEC and the White House. He posits that the earliest possible launch for the Solana ETF could be by 2025, assuming regulatory conditions evolve favorably.

The post VanEck Initiates Application for First U.S. Solana Spot ETF first appeared on Coinfea.

Michael Saylor, the CEO of MicroStrategy, made headlines with his recent comments on Bloomberg TV, emphasizing his firm’s strategy regarding their substantial Bitcoin holdings. Despite the volatile nature of cryptocurrency markets, Saylor expressed no intention of selling the company’s Bitcoin assets, which are currently valued at approximately $10 billion. MicroStrategy, a prominent player in the business intelligence sector, has transformed its investment strategy to focus significantly on Bitcoin, acquiring around 190,000 bitcoins at an average price of $31,224 each. This strategic move has not only redefined the company’s asset base but also its market perception, positioning it as a major digital asset investor.

The role of ETFs in institutional bitcoin investments

Saylor highlighted the importance of spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) in providing a gateway for institutional capital into the Bitcoin ecosystem. According to him, these financial instruments are crucial in the digital transformation of capital, facilitating the daily flow of hundreds of millions of dollars from traditional investments to the digital economy. This shift is indicative of a broader trend where digital assets are increasingly becoming integrated into mainstream financial strategies, offering a new avenue for institutional investors to participate in the cryptocurrency space.

Bitcoin vs. traditional asset classes

In the interview, Saylor articulated a bullish outlook on Bitcoin’s value proposition compared to traditional asset classes such as gold, real estate, and the S&P index. Despite Bitcoin’s market capitalization being significantly smaller than these established assets, Saylor argued for its technical superiority and potential for capital appreciation. His rationale is that Bitcoin, with its unique properties and growing acceptance, is poised to attract more investment from these traditional sectors. Saylor’s perspective underscores a growing sentiment among certain investors that digital currencies offer a viable alternative to traditional investment options.

MicroStrategy’s commitment to Bitcoin

Since its initial Bitcoin purchase in August 2020, MicroStrategy has consistently increased its investment in the cryptocurrency, signaling a long-term commitment to its digital asset strategy. This approach was further emphasized with the company’s rebranding as a “bitcoin development company” alongside its fourth-quarter earnings report. This move reflects not only MicroStrategy’s investment strategy but also its belief in Bitcoin’s role in the future of finance. Saylor’s comments reinforce the company’s stance on Bitcoin as not just an investment but as a foundational aspect of its business model and a belief in the cryptocurrency’s enduring value.

In conclusion, Michael Saylor’s unwavering support for Bitcoin underscores a strategic vision that contrasts sharply with more cautious or diversified approaches to cryptocurrency investment. By betting big on Bitcoin, MicroStrategy is positioning itself at the forefront of a potential paradigm shift in asset management and investment strategy. As the digital economy continues to evolve, the company’s Bitcoin-centric approach will be closely watched by investors and analysts alike, offering insights into the future of digital asset investment.

The post HODL ETF by VanEck surges to $300 million in trading volume, skyrockets by 1000% first appeared on Coinfea.

As highlighted by Gabor Gurbacs of VanEck, the blockchain sector is rapidly evolving, with significant transformations echoing the early growth stages of exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Gurbacs, in a recent discussion on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized the crypto sector’s underappreciated potential. He compared its trajectory to the ETF market, which burgeoned from a single fund in 1993 to a $9 trillion industry. This comparison showcases the potential for exponential growth in the crypto world and hints at its impending mainstream acceptance.

SEC approval marks a new era for crypto

A key milestone in this journey is the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s approval of 11 spot Bitcoin ETF applications. This development signals the increasing integration of cryptocurrencies within the traditional financial market. Firms like Grayscale Investments plan to file for a covered Bitcoin ETF, suggesting that introducing these ETFs is just the beginning of a broader reimagining of capital markets. This shift indicates a move from focusing solely on blockchain technology to a wider application in capital markets.

Beyond Bitcoin ETFs and tokenization, the industry is witnessing a surge in AI-driven cryptocurrencies. In 2023, AI-focused crypto tokens, spurred by developments in generative AI technologies like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, have gained substantial attention. This trend, observed by major players like Binance, marks a new frontier in the intersection of AI and blockchain technology. It points to potential new directions and innovations, reflecting a broader trend of technological convergence in the digital asset space.

A diversified and sophisticated crypto ecosystem

These developments indicate a maturation phase in the crypto industry, moving from its initial hype-driven phase towards a more stable and diversified ecosystem. As traditional financial institutions and technology companies delve deeper into digital assets, the future of the crypto industry seems set for further growth and innovation. This evolving narrative suggests a more integrated and influential role for these technologies in the global financial system, moving beyond the simple narratives that previously dominated discussions about blockchain technology.

The post VanEck advisor links crypto growth to early ETF market first appeared on Coinfea.

Investment management firm VanEck is ramping up its advertising efforts for its upcoming Ether (ETH $1,656) futures exchange-traded fund (ETF), which is speculated to be introduced as soon as October 2. The company has recently debuted two television commercials under the theme “Enter the Ether,” signaling the impending launch of its Ethereum Strategy ETF, dubbed EFUT.

The commercials were launched on September 28, simultaneously with VanEck’s press release regarding the imminent EFUT. The release revealed that the ETF is set to be listed on the Chicago Board Options Exchange and will be managed by Greg Krenzer, VanEck’s head of active trading.

Bloomberg ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart suggest that the promotional activities indicate a swifter-than-expected launch of the Ether futures ETFs. Despite indications from September 29 documents of a 60-day interim period before the activation of the ETF, Seyffart foresees a launch coming Monday, attributing it to potential expedited approvals from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for such innovations.

VanEck’s promotional content includes a 15-second clip featuring actors with serious expressions and distinctive, extraterrestrial-sounding background music. The ad conveys the message, “Ethereum. Now in an ETF form. Coming soon,” and concludes with another actor delivering the “Enter the Ether” tagline.

A second, more traditional 30-second ad hints at an upcoming “shift” and posits that Ethereum’s gravitational pull “will draw everyone in.” Balchunas predicts that other ETF providers will likely escalate their marketing initiatives, particularly when spot Bitcoin (BTC $26,960) ETFs are greenlit.

Furthermore, financial services company Valkyrie has announced its intention to grant access to Ether via its existing Bitcoin Strategy ETF, positioning itself as a frontrunner in offering such exposure, with several applications still pending SEC approval.

On September 28, Seyffart alluded to the SEC potentially greenlighting multiple Ethereum futures ETFs the following week, possibly in response to a looming U.S. government shutdown. Presently, 15 Ether futures ETFs from nine issuers are in the pipeline for launch.

The market is also preparing for a promotional showdown as ETFs secure approval, with several providers releasing analogous products concurrently. This unprecedented scenario is poised to redefine the competitive dynamics of ETF provisions.

The post VanEck amplifies ads for upcoming Ether ETF first appeared on Coinfea.
