El Salvador has completed the revision of its Bitcoin diploma program, Bitcoin Diploma 2.0, to be incorporated into the education system of the country.

The printed copies of the program will be available in the near future, and they will aim at educating younger students on the concepts of Bitcoin in an easier manner.

The new initiative, which is led by the National Bitcoin Office, will enable access to Bitcoin education among people of all ages, including children and adult civil servants.

Bitcoin diploma 2.0 overview

Bitcoin Diploma 2.0 is a continuation of the initial program of 2022.

The initial one, which was introduced with the assistance of the nonprofit My First Bitcoin, was a pilot program that was a 10-week course taught at public schools nationwide.

More than 27,000 students had joined the program by 2023, with 350 female graduates.

Nonetheless, My First Bitcoin ended the partnership with El Salvador in April 2023.

Although the division occurred, the government has continued to advance with the Bitcoin Diploma 2.0, which now comprises instructional processes that can make complex concepts of Bitcoin easy to learn among young learners.

The program includes information about mining, economics, incentives, and how the global financial system functions.

Bitcoin education across El Salvador

The new program is one among the wider measures to introduce Bitcoin education in many areas of Salvadoran life.

As early as 7 years old, students will be taught the fundamentals of money, and civil servants will be given a 3-day certification course related to Bitcoin.

BITCOIN DIPLOMA 2.0
A new era begins in the new El Salvador.
pic.twitter.com/MNFkpFXt0M
— The Bitcoin Office (@bitcoinofficesv) February 22, 2026

Other educational initiatives, such as CUBO+ and the Higher School of Innovation in Public Administration (ESIAP), will also be included in the Bitcoin education rollout.

The Bitcoin Diploma 2.0, according to Stacy Herbert, who is the Director of the National Bitcoin Office, is a component of a larger project by El Salvador to create an innovative future via educational programs.

As Bitcoin education becomes more affordable to the younger generation of the country, the government is taking steps to make sure that the labor force of the country is prepared for the digitalized future.

Challenges to Bitcoin Adoption in El Salvador

Although El Salvador has been ambitious in incorporating Bitcoin into everyday life, past Bitcoin-related projects have failed to work.

Bitcoin City, a geothermal-based mining project proposed by the government as a place to mine Bitcoin, was behind schedule in both building and financing.

Planned to be issued in the form of Volcano Bonds to fund Bitcoin City did not come about.

The Chivo digital wallet, launched in 2021 with a signup bonus of $30, also did not have much success with widespread usage.

In 2023, a survey that interviewed only 20% of the users indicated that only one out of five users still used the wallet after redeeming their bonus.

Research shows that 92% of the Salvadorans did not use Bitcoin to make transactions by 2024. Such issues are a cause of concern regarding the success of Bitcoin-based efforts in the country.

The future of Bitcoin diploma 2.0

El Salvador has the potential to succeed with the implementation of Bitcoin Diploma 2.0, but to a great extent, it will consist of reception by the students and educators.

Assuming that the program will be able to incorporate the education about Bitcoin into the mainstream, it may become important in determining the future of the digital currency in El Salvador.

Nevertheless, the history of failed projects associated with Bitcoin indicates that a significant number of people might not become users and supporters in the foreseeable future.

The post El Salvador Launches Bitcoin Diploma 2.0: Will It Succeed? first appeared on Coinfea.

Bitcoin accrual in El Salvador rose this last week as the government expended approximately $100 million to place 1,098 Bitcoin in the national reserve.

The acquisition occurred in an acute market decline but leaders proceeded with their long-term course of action without hesitation. According to the recent market statistics, the nation currently possesses approximately 7,474 Bitcoin which are worth around $688 million.

Daily sales are made even when the market is declining

El Salvador has been taking a slow and steady pace to establish its position in Bitcoin. President Nayib Bukele posted a screenshot on X of the latest weekly acquisition in government and rejoiced in the improvement. His government has promised to purchase one Bitcoin every day, which will enable the nation to lower its average acquisition price with time. According to the officials, the strategy is meant to empower the financial future of the country by providing a stable exposure to digital assets.

According to the statements of the Bitcoin Office director of the country, Stacy Herbert, the daily-buy plan is pro-citizen providing them with better financial freedom. Majority of the people in Salvador continue to use the United States dollar on a daily basis but the government has a hope that they would be able to promote wider knowledge on Bitcoin. The adoption has been slow as Bitcoin is now a legal tender and international organizations like IMF have sounded warning bells. Still, El Salvador has remained consistent with its long-term goal.

New investors panic over market volatility

Bitcoin has been under $90,000 level this week, and has lost almost five percent in a single session. This fall made new investors to sell off soon as they tried to escape higher losses. This response caused one of the biggest selling spikes in the short term since April 2025 when some 148,000 Bitcoins transitioned between wallets. The market crash prevailed as additional holders liquidated their posts.

As panic selling intensified, El Salvador was not interrupted in its regular purchasing. The policy of the government was contrasting the actions of retail investors. This model is also being replicated in other countries with the Czech National Bank recently announcing its initial buy of Bitcoin. These moves have not however been sufficient to stabilize prices since market sentiment is still weak.

El Salvador leads in Bitcoin holders in the world

Recent statistics of DropsTab indicate that the holdings of El Salvador have produced an approximate sum of $264.6 million unrealized profit. This figure indicates the possibility of the long-term value of its accumulation policy. The nation has been the fifth-largest state Bitcoin owner after the United States, China, and the United Kingdom and the European Union.

The country has an economic size way smaller compared to its international counterparts, but its strategic focus on digital assets has drawn international scrutiny. Although there is a warning by critics that heavy exposure to Bitcoin can be considered a financial risk, President Bukele still buys because he anticipates long term benefits to the country.

El Salvador has increased its devotion to Bitcoin by adding to its reserve a market drawback. Its day-to-day buying strategy has not changed since the officials are not focused on short run turbulence but on the long-term objectives.

The post Bitcoin Reserve Growth Drives El Salvador’s Latest $100 Million Purchase first appeared on Coinfea.

Steak n Shake, a chain store that uses Bitcoin, stated that it was expanding in El Salvador because

it recorded high sales because of its move toward using Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. The company announced the update following the participation in the Bitcoin Histórico event in San Salvador where it assured its allegiance to the pro-Bitcoin atmosphere in the country.

This shift in company growth is brought about by Bitcoin payments

Bitcoin-powered Steak Shack added bitcoin payments to all locations in the US on May 16, 2025. This change was signified by the company through a public announcement and the release of a Bitcoin Steakburger alongside other themed food. An X post had been used a week previous by it to hint on an impending Bitcoin support of payment.

Later, COO Dan Edwards said the company is on a mission to offer a Bitcoin payment option to all its international destinations. Upon the rollout, the chain stated that it had recorded a 11% increment in same-store sales during the second quarter. Analysts attributed this increase to an increase in customer activity as a result of the adoption of Bitcoin. Another aspect that caught the attention of the broader Bitcoin community was the company penetrating the broader market with more merchants accepting Bitcoin as a means of making daily purchases.

Ether interest is a controversial topic among crypto communities

The company considered the concept of the introduction of Ether as a supplemental payment method. This attracted attention when an X post inquired the followers on whether Ether payments would be a good option. Survey of 48,815 people revealed that approximately 53% of them were in favor of the proposal.

The concept was immediately criticized by certain Bitcoin believers. A single critic wrote that Ether was not decentralized in the same way as Bitcoin and advised that a large number of customers interested in Bitcoin could cease to patronize the company. The backlash also drew a rift among crypto communities as businesses tested various digital payment systems.

Company changes course on Ether and strengthens Bitcoin positions

Later reports indicated that the company canceled its Ether plans although it stated earlier that it would act in accordance with the poll. On October 11, the company announced that the poll has been canceled and it supported Bitcoin users. The post implied internal conflict over the proposal and indicated a strong reversion to an all-Bitcoin policy.

The chain registered a 15% growth in same-store sales in the third quarter in November. The firm performed better as compared to other leading competitors at that time. The competitors were McDonalds, Burger king, Taco Bell and Starbucks. This expansion created an impetus to its expansion strategy and solidified its role as a merchant that endorses cryptocurrency payments.

Steak n Shake that operates on bitcoin will keep on adjusting its business strategy to the Bitcoin community as it ventures into El Salvador. The increasing sales in the company indicate that the consumer confidence in the payments made via cryptocurrencies is growing, and its adherence to Bitcoin is one of the objectives of the global strategy.

The post Bitcoin-powered Steak ‘n Shake Expands Into El Salvador After Strong Bitcoin-linked Sales first appeared on Coinfea.

My First Bitcoin has officially shut down its local operations in El Salvador and is no longer working with the government’s Ministry of Education. The program, which is deemed one of the best Bitcoin education courses in El Salvador, will transition to supporting teachers and programs internationally.

John Dennehy, Founder of My First Bitcoin, said the move shows where they are heading in the long term. “Our ambition was always to change the world, but we had to start with a single student, then a single city, then a single nation,” Dennehy said. “Now we are ready to raise the potential impact from 6 million people to 8 billion.”

My First Bitcoin was founded as an independent nonprofit in 2021, during El Salvador’s early adoption of Bitcoin. It provided free, beginner-friendly classes for students, community groups, and adults. The program eventually created a formalized “Bitcoin Diploma” and trained local instructors to teach the classes. At the time of the announcement, the organization had taught more than 27,000 students in person, with the majority being public school youth.

El Salvador changes its Bitcoin policy as My First Bitcoin exits

The program partnered with the Ministry of Education to provide Bitcoin education in public schools across the country. My First Bitcoin College sent out its curriculum to schools in 2024, following the publication of its diploma-style syllabus, which was developed in collaboration with the Ministry in 2023.

However, things flamed out in April 2025, with the government providing no specific reason for halting the initiative. Arnold Hubach, Director of Communication at My First Bitcoin, stated that no new program will be introduced.

The announcement marked another in a series of policy reversals on Bitcoin in El Salvador, which followed financial discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). El Salvador secured a $1.4 billion IMF bailout in December 2024, which pledged to wind down Bitcoin projects and halt the government’s regulatory purchases of BTC. In January 2025, legislators revised the nation’s Bitcoin law, allowing businesses to opt in or out of accepting Bitcoin.

Later in mid-2025, the IMF reported that El Salvador had not purchased any new Bitcoin since the financing deal was signed — although an official website for the Bitcoin Office still advertises its ongoing purchases. The government’s reported Bitcoin treasury currently stands at approximately 6,374 BTC, which is valued at $654.8 million, according to current prices and public data on the Bitcoin Office website.

The post El Salvador says goodbye to My First Bitcoin first appeared on Coinfea.

El Salvador has become one of the latest countries to join the gold rush, with the Central Reserve Bank announcing the acquisition of 13,999 Troy ounces of gold, worth about $50 million. With the new purchase, El Salvador’s gold stash moved from 44,106 troy ounces to 58,105 troy ounces, estimated at $207 million.

This is the first purchase made by the country in a while, with its last one coming in 1990. The country is also following the steps of major countries like China, Turkey, and India, which have been frequently buying the precious stone.

El Salvador announces plans to diversify its reserves

According to El Salvador, the acquisition of gold is part of its International Reserves diversification strategy. The country’s BCR believes in gold and sees it as a universally strategic asset. It highlighted that the precious metal will help El Salvador strengthen its long-term financial plan and protect the country’s economy from turbulent international markets.

The central bank believes that investing in gold brings greater stability for El Salvadorans. “The implementation of this strategy is possible thanks to the strengthening of the Central Reserve Bank’s assets in recent years … resulting from the various policies implemented by President Nayib Bukele,” wrote the Central Bank of El Salvador (BCR) in the release.

The decision to purchase gold shows that El Salvador is trying a different approach towards strengthening its reserves. Since 2021, the company has been focusing its attention on Bitcoin. However, the country faced massive backlash after an IMF report showed that it had not been purchasing new Bitcoins since December 2024. The IMF demanded that the country stop buying the asset after granting a loan of $1.4 billion.

Is the country switching from BTC to gold?

President Nayib Bukele has yet to address the IMF’s claims, and the country’s Bitcoin Office recently moved its BTC into different wallets, citing security reasons. Analysts see El Salvador’s latest gold purchase as a positive sign. The BCR is trying to stabilize its balance sheet since Bitcoin is volatile. The country’s central bank reported net international reserves of $4.7 billion in July 2025. That’s an increase from the $3 billion recorded a year earlier. About $700 million is held in Bitcoin.

El Salvador is also following in the footsteps of other countries, with central banks from different countries already adding 1,000 tonnes of gold collectively each year in the past two years. According to the World Gold Council (WGC), they are on track to hit that figure in 2025. In its recent report, the WGC said central banks purchased 10 tonnes of gold in July.

The precious metal now accounts for nearly 20% of global reserves, ranking second after the US dollar. Goldman Sachs believes that if the American Federal Reserve Bank loses its independence, investors will convert some of their US treasuries into gold. This will push the gold buying spree even further, pushing the precious metal to $5,000 per ounce.

The post El Salvador joins the gold rush, acquires 13,999 troy ounces first appeared on Coinfea.

Pakistan has entered into a crypto-related partnership with one of the few countries focused on Bitcoin, El Salvador. According to reports, the chief executive officer of the Pakistan Crypto Council, Bilal Bin Saqib, met up with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele to discuss crypto cooperation.

Pakistan has shown increased interest in digital assets as the country continues to work under the $7 billion IMF program that was arranged in 2024, an arrangement that remains in place till 2027. This new collaboration also reveals how digital assets are entering the realm of international relations. El Salvador has also been a source of IMF concerns, according to Bloomberg. Its loan pact required it to halt new Bitcoin purchases, yet in April, it reported holding 6,238 Bitcoin, valued at about $745 million at current market rates.

Pakistan makes crypto power push amid IMF scrutiny

Pakistan has been seeing a rise in digital assets trading, as it has gained widespread acceptance amid warnings by the central bank about market volatility and consumer risks. According to Saqib, between 15 and 20 million residents of Pakistan hold digital assets. To use this to their advantage, the country has earmarked 2,000 megawatts of electricity for Bitcoin mining and announced a plan to establish a national Bitcoin reserve.

However, the country’s Power Secretary, Fakhre Alam Irfan, has informed the Senate’s Energy Committee that the development has drawn the interest of the IMF, which has raised concerns over the country’s choice to offer preferential electricity rates to miners. The agency mentioned that it could worsen the already delicate power market in the country and increase the already intensifying existing vulnerabilities.

Although Pakistan often has extra electricity, especially in winter, the IMF warns that offering special prices for crypto miners could upset the balance between supply and demand. Under the terms of Pakistan’s $7 billion IMF facility, any major shifts in energy policy must receive prior IMF sign‑off. In July 2025, Pakistan formally established the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) to license and oversee virtual‑asset exchanges, wallets, stablecoins, and related services.

This move came after a Letter of Intent in April 2025 between the Pakistan Crypto Council and World Liberty Financial, a firm linked to United States President Donald Trump. The move aimed to improve blockchain adoption using pilot regulatory sandboxes and stablecoin initiatives. Although Pakistan avoided a sovereign default in 2023, it still faces steep financing needs. The IMF projects that it will require more than $100 billion in external funding by 2029 to cover budget and balance‑of‑payments gaps.

The post Pakistan enters crypto partnership with El Salvador first appeared on Coinfea.

El Salvador has added eight Bitcoins to its national reserves this past week, bringing its total cache to over 6,000. The government has continued its Bitcoin accumulation despite strict conditions attached to the loan deal signed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in late 2024.

The country presently holds about $641 million worth of Bitcoin, a figure that was made available to the public through the El Salvador Bitcoin Office. The government is determined to continue accumulating Bitcoin, with its president betting bigger on the assets. “No, it’s not stopping. If it didn’t stop when the world ostracized us and most ‘Bitcoiners’ abandoned us, it won’t stop now, and it won’t stop in the future,” he said.

El Salvador expands Bitcoin reserves despite IMF deal

The Bukele government has been buying at least one Bitcoin a day. This has been going on since late 2023 and has continued in abundance into 2025. There are days when the government purchases more than a single BTC, depending on market prices and how much money is available.

The buys are carried out via the Bitcoin Office, a special unit created to deal with crypto stuff for the government. This office is also in the habit of making routine media announcements and posting information regarding the government of El Salvador’s Bitcoin holdings through its website and social media.

In December 2024, the country signed a $1.4 billion loan deal with the IMF, whose public policy includes the stabilization of the economy, encouraging foreign investments, and reorganizing national debt. However, the offer came with strings. The country agreed to halt any voluntary public sector accumulation of Bitcoin as part of a technical memorandum of understanding.

This included activities such as purchasing and mining BTC. However, the agreement clarified that Bitcoin obtained through forfeiture, seizure, custody, or similar legal actions against individuals or companies would be exempt from this restriction. El Salvador’s lawmakers responded in January 2025 with a 55 to 2 vote to repeal the Bitcoin legal tender law. The law was later reversed; Bitcoin was still legal in the country, but it was no longer compulsory to use it in transactions.

El Salvador’s Bitcoin buying spree is not slowing down soon with the country remaining one of the few countries obtaining the asset through open market operations. Crypto industry leaders believe that its national Bitcoin treasury approach could become a model for other countries looking into the idea of creating their Bitcoin reserves.

Some analysts think Bukele’s plan may encourage other small or emerging nations to consider Bitcoin a national reserve asset. El Salvador is the only country in the world taking public money in real-time and daily to generate purchases in Bitcoin. Critics call the move risky, while its supporters say it is visionary.

The post El Salvador defies IMF agreement, adds 8 Bitcoins to its reserves first appeared on Coinfea.

El Salvador has continued its commitment to the Bitcoin community, adding more BTC to its strategic Bitcoin Reserve, to bring its total cache to 6,093. The total cache is now worth $523M, with the country adding $1M worth of BTC in the last seven days, and $3.75M worth of BTC in the past 30 days.

The country’s National Bitcoin Office released the official figures through its tracker, noting that the company is still committing to staking up its one BTC per day promise despite the market decline. El Salvador has relaxed its Bitcoin policies, removing the mandatory clause for businesses to accept the asset. The legislative arm of the country passed a new Bitcoin law at the end of January, removing “currency” while keeping it as legal tender.

The changes, set to take effect on May 1, have been added to the national newspaper in El Salvador. This means that users can decide to decline the use of BTC for several aspects of their everyday lives. In addition, students are being taught private and public key generation as they continue to learn about transaction data and Cold card simulators.

El Salvador continues to buy Bitcoin despite market slump

According to the National Bitcoin Office, the purchase is going to continue until morale improves. “The first Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in the world keeps growing and so El Salvador keeps winning,” the Bitcoin Office said. The office also mentioned on February 24 that it has added 7 more BTC to its reserve as part of the long-term strategy. According to a recent Reuters report, the country has continued to stack up BTC despite promising the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to scale back on the purchases.

The agreement signed with the IMF in December 2024 was the major reason why the acceptance of Bitcoin became voluntary in the country as opposed to the previous compulsory stance. Aside from that, other payments were made in the United States dollar, with economists noting that Bitcoin no longer had the strength of a legal tender, despite the government’s continued efforts to force it.

El Salvador has also scaled back its Chivo wallet, with the president passing legal amendments to effect the new changes. However, the new changes have not affected the country’s one BTC per day strategy, committing to since the beginning of 2025. “We have a Bitcoin Office, we have the Bitcoin Law, Bitcoin can be used in El Salvador,” El Salvador’s ambassador to the United States said. However, a recent survey showed that 92% of Salvadorians did not use Bitcoin in 2024.

The post El Salvador commits to Bitcoin purchase despite market dip first appeared on Coinfea.

El Salvador has passed a new law to regulate artificial intelligence, aiming to boost its adoption and attract talents. The move was announced by the Bitcoin Office, noting that it aligns with President Nayib Bukele’s economic liberty policy.

The announcement focuses on open-source and proprietary systems, with the law focusing on addressing open-source development. “This new legislative framework aims to ensure that both proprietary and open-source AI systems are afforded appropriate protections, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding open-source development — a pioneering step in global AI policy,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, the proprietary models enjoy international protections and the new law will extend the privilege to the open-source models. The country is looking to attract foreign investors, with the new law expected to boost attractiveness in the sector.

El Salvador earns praise for innovation adoption

The recent news out of El Salvador has earned the country praise from various quarters, with most of it coming from thought experts and industry leaders. Sortium founder Marc Seal hailed the forward-thinking process. “The passing of this legislation by the President and the Assembly cements El Salvador as a haven of innovation,” he said.

The country has been making strides in the industry to attract investors, with the president in a meeting with Microstrategy CEO Michael Saylor recently.

Meanwhile, the country has continued to accumulate Bitcoin despite the asset seeing a steady decline over the last few days. Bukele has also remained unshaken, taking a slight dig at detractors questioning his choice of Bitcoin investment in a market downturn. The comments were coming as a result of the country’s gap in Bitcoin purchase despite noting that it will buy one BTC per day last year.

The post El Salvador wants to boost AI and attract talent with new law first appeared on Coinfea.

El Salvador has resumed its Bitcoin purchase after a brief pause. According to Arkham Intelligence, the country recently purchased seven BTC, which amounts to about $661k. This is the first purchase since the last one, which came on February 18.

The country currently holds more than 6,000 BTC, which is currently worth around $558 million, with the stash being propped up by its promise to purchase one BTC per day from November 2022. The recent halt in purchases came after an agreement between the IMF and the country to make modifications to its Bitcoin purchase to achieve a $3.5 billion financial contribution.

While it looked like the agreement may hamper its Bitcoin purchases, the country ramped it up, making a spirited purchase in December 2024, adding $1 million worth of the asset to its stash. The country also made the same worth of purchase the following month, marking another milestone.

El Salvador makes fresh BTC purchase

El Salvador’s Bitcoin policy involving the country’s adoption of Bitcoin as currency has influenced market sentiment, affecting Bitcoin’s volatility. The latest acquisition occurred after the price was below $95,000 due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on tariffs.

“El Salvador finally abandoned its failed experiment of using Bitcoin as legal tender. After two years, only 8% of Salvadorans used Bitcoin even once. If Bitcoin can’t function as a medium of exchange—the purpose for which it was created—what value does it have that can be stored?” – Peter Schiff.

El Salvador has enjoyed a nice relationship with Bitcoin, announcing its use as a legal tender. The country also made its first purchase of the asset within that period. However, statistics still point to the low volume of patronage of the asset in the country despite its wide recognition.

The post El Salvador resumes Bitcoin purchases with $661k BTC buy first appeared on Coinfea.
