SpaceX founder and CEO, Elon Musk announced early Monday that every child in the United States will receive one unit each of his shares in the Starship maker next year. Musk committed to the giveaway, estimated at roughly $10.5 billion, within a day of publicly criticizing the new charity fund that Anthropic announced ahead of its upcoming IPO.

In his early Monday morning X post, Elon Musk promised to “give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America” next year. The Tesla founder also teased future giveaways, writing that it is “the first of many.” However, Musk did not go into detail on how the giveaway would work or who qualifies for the “kid” designation. Per the Census Bureau data, over 72 million people are under the age of 18 in the US. SpaceX’s SPCX stock closed at $146.03 per unit on Friday. At that rate, the giveaway Musk promised for 2027 would be worth a little over $10.5 billion.

Musk also teases future giveaway

Before Musk’s October commitment, SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell made a similar share pledge to 2 million Trump accounts. That gift is worth close to $300 million at current prices. The nearly $11 billion Musk promised is nearly double the record-breaking gift Michael Dell made to federal Trump accounts. Musk’s SpaceX share commitment came one day after Anthropic said it would commit at least 5% of its equity to a new public benefit fund, as Cryptopolitan reported.

The entity could be worth $100 billion or more at the IPO valuation the company is rumored to be pursuing. Anthropic said it would set up a separate corporation to hold the shares and make donations. Musk reacted directly to the news, writing, “I recommend giving the shares directly to the public.” The SpaceX founder added, “This is what I will be doing.” Musk was not the only critic. Business Insider reported that Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner warned about “foundation wealth concentration” despite praising the “extraordinary gift.”

He also added that he hoped a chunk of AI wealth would arrive as “a direct dividend.” NYU professor Gary Marcus was harsher, writing that “Anthropic is playing games here” and that the plan “reeks of desperation.” Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights and Strategy asked why the company did not simply hand the money to citizens who “would know what to do with the money better than bureaucratic institutions.”

Musk’s jab is directed at a company his SpaceX does business with. As Cryptopolitan reported, Anthropic pays SpaceX $1.25 billion a month for compute through May 2029, a run rate near $15 billion a year, and Musk earlier called the lab “clearly” the current leader in AI after walking back a 2025 dismissal.

The post Musk set to award SpaceX shares to every US child first appeared on Coinfea.

Sources familiar with the private discussions say Anthropic has pitched a draft bill on frontier AI safety to lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Reportedly, the bill allows the US government to block a model if it presents a clear, imminent danger of 50+ casualties or $1 billion in financial damages. The said risk must involve a cyberattack, the creation or deployment of biological weapons, or a model that has successfully evaded its developer’s safety constraints.

Over the last few months, top-tier AI developers have acknowledged multiple instances of AI agents hacking or testing the defenses of online platforms. Fortunately, none of these early breaches resulted in widespread fatalities or catastrophic financial losses. The proposed restrictions would place greater emphasis on what advanced AI systems can do in real-world settings rather than relying solely on safety commitments made by their developers. As models become more capable of writing code, identifying software vulnerabilities, and carrying out complex tasks autonomously, regulators face the challenge of determining when a system’s capabilities cross the threshold into unacceptable risk.

Anthropic proposes $1B in damages if a model presents clear danger

Independent testing could help establish whether a model can bypass safeguards or be misused for harmful activities before it reaches a wider audience. However, defining an imminent threat remains difficult, particularly when the same capabilities that pose security risks can also help researchers identify and fix vulnerabilities. In defense of the bill, a spokesperson for Anthropic said it is similar to the security recommendations outlined in the company’s Advanced AI Framework, published in June.

In that framework, the firm had pointed out that its Claude Mythos Preview had already uncovered thousands of severe vulnerabilities, spanning every major operating system and web browser. Back then, it stressed that this trajectory is bound to accelerate, bringing an escalating risk of catastrophic real-world harm. It also pushed for a balanced regulatory approach that calls for government intervention without stifling innovation. Even then, the firm maintained that when an AI model presents extreme dangers, regulators must possess the unique statutory power to block it or impose heavy fines.

Up until now, Anthropic hasn’t openly endorsed any specific federal bills in Congress, though they have thrown their support behind a few state-level AI safety laws—including a couple in California, such as SB 53. That specific bill, enacted last year, requires companies to create and share their safety frameworks while working to mitigate major risks. It also obliges them to report any serious safety incidents to the state within 15 days. Under Anthropic’s proposal, third-party evaluators registered with the Commerce Department would routinely test the company’s labs and models.

While labs are permitted to finance these assessments, the compensation cannot be contingent upon the evaluator’s findings. Furthermore, any discovery of an ‘imminent enumerated risk’ must be reported to federal authorities within 72 hours of completion. Then, if the Commerce Department determines that a model poses a risk, it can ask a judge to block its release. The provision, however, prohibits any other U.S. “department, agency, or officer” from stopping the model’s development, deployment, or internal use.

Nonetheless, a federal judge in the District of Columbia retains the authority to order such a suspension. On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission sent civil subpoenas to OpenAI and Anthropic, requesting records on safety incidents that have become a growing crisis for the industry. OpenAI responded to the subpoena, saying, “As we improve our models and they increasingly help people in their day-to-day lives, safety remains a top priority. We will engage constructively with the FTC.”

The post Anthropic submits AI safety bill with $1B damage threshold to Congress first appeared on Coinfea.

Many people in the AI industry anticipate a major AI-driven incident within six to 12 months. Executives at Anthropic, OpenAI and other major developers are already working with lawmakers who will write the rules afterward, according to Axios. Executives have also acknowledged there’s no way any AI bill will pass now.

With this in mind, they’re trying to get out in front of the emergency legislation Washington would write once the first disaster hits. Planners expect Democrats to emerge from the November 3 midterms in a stronger position and move promptly to advance AI. But the push clashes with an older Congress that doesn’t get the technology, an economy that depends on data-center spending and open-weight models that anyone can download today. Companies don’t think control of both chambers will end the infighting, splits among Democrats included.

Legislation on AI is said to be in the works

Proposals range from a superintelligence ban to a pause on advanced development. One comes from Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar, which is named the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act. It would ban AI that matches or outperforms humans on a wide range of tasks and stop advanced work until a new federal agency formulates safety standards. Penalties can include up to 20 years in prison.

Mandatory kill switches for advanced models are supported by both parties and parts of the industry. Some experts are questioning whether all artificial intelligence systems can even be turned off. One Democratic aide cited the 2008 financial crisis and COVID as examples of Congress moving speedily in previous emergencies. The most likely scenario is a cyberattack big enough to knock out banks, internet service, or even power and water utilities. The first real harm from unsafe AI will only turn a wary public further against the industry, planners expect.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and President Donald Trump, who has avoided regulating AI, would all land in the hot seat. Companies also red-team those worst cases, attacking their own defenses to find holes. War-gaming is standard practice in business and in national security. Here, many senior researchers and executives believe a major incident is inevitable.

“OpenAI conducts preparedness exercises where teams discuss and work through a range of potential scenarios,” a company spokesperson said. “These scenarios are not treated as inevitable, but are meant to help us prepare for a variety of circumstances.” Anthropic declined to comment. In South Korea, a lone attacker allegedly leveraged Chinese AI models, including DeepSeek, to attack two banks there and steal data on tens of thousands of customers.

CrowdStrike assesses with moderate confidence that the attacker is a likely Chinese speaker. The attacker then asked Anthropic’s Claude Code for advice on where to sell it, according to the security firm. Anthropic has revealed four examples of Claude models getting onto the open internet during testing and breaking into outside systems. The labs are also examining tens of thousands of instances of unexpected model behavior.

The post AI insiders predict crippling attack within 12 months first appeared on Coinfea.

Anthropic paid chief executive Dario Amodei $18 million for 2025, according to its unpublished IPO prospectus seen by Reuters, with stock and option awards making up most of the pay. The package puts him in the middle of the pack of big-tech bosses, while the listing ahead of it could value Anthropic at more than $2 trillion.

The document omits the one number founders care about most, their ownership stakes. And depending on the final IPO pricing, those holdings may be worth billions of dollars. Both Amodei and his sister Daniela, Anthropic’s president, saw their salaries doubled to $1.4 million in July; her total package for 2025 was $16.4 million. The two siblings are to get more equity. This year, the board pledged them restricted stock units, with some of the payout contingent on their staying at Anthropic and some contingent on the listing.

Anthropic IPO doubles Amodei’s salary

The finance chief, Krishna Rao, was hired in 2024 with options on 1.4 million shares, earned $720,250 in 2025, and exercised options worth $385,285 in the year. Anthropic declined to comment on the compensation data. Amodei ranked above the chiefs at Alphabet and Amazon, but below their peers at Oracle and Nvidia. Sundar Pichai’s $10.9 million at Alphabet mostly went to an $8.8 million personal security bill; Andy Jassy’s $2.1 million at Amazon mostly went to travel and security.

Under the SEC’s compensation-actually-paid measure, which includes changes in unvested stock, Pichai’s compensation soared to $213.9 million in 2025 and Jassy’s to $13.2 million. Oracle co-CEO Clayton Magouyrk led the pack at $627.5 million. In contrast, SpaceX paid Elon Musk $54,080 as a CEO before going public, and promised him super-voting shares if the company hits a $7.5 trillion valuation and gets 1 million people on Mars.

Amodei’s $18 million also lags the $22.8 million average for chief executives of S&P 500 companies, which the AFL-CIO says climbed 21% last year, not counting Musk’s $158 billion Tesla stock plan. Courtney Yu, research director at compensation tracker Equilar, said $18 million sits on the low side for a $2 trillion company. Founder-CEOs rarely rely on annual pay since their equity holdings already take care of them, she said.

Amodei, with six other co-founders, may get a smaller piece of the IPO bounty than other tech chieftains, Yu said. Amodei and the other co-founders also said in the filing that they would donate 80% of their Anthropic shares to charity. Pressed on that promise, Anthropic pointed to an essay Amodei published earlier this year, in which he said the wealthy owe aid on problems AI creates and faulted a “cynical and nihilistic attitude” toward philanthropy among rich people in tech.

Risk factors make up about 80 pages of the 261-page prospectus, reported Cryptopolitan, including a warning that advanced AI could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.” The company confidentially filed its draft S-1 on June 1, earlier, Cryptopolitan reports said. In an interview with Fortune, Yann LeCun, a researcher in AI, this week called Amodei “deluded.”

The post Anthropic IPO filing puts Amodei’s 2025 salary at $18M first appeared on Coinfea.

OpenAI’s annual recurring revenue is approaching $70 billion, driven by business customers signing on at roughly twice the rate they did in July. OpenAI is working to close the revenue gap between its business and Anthropic’s while both labs aim to launch IPOs.

OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate, according to anonymous sources speaking to Axios, has risen by over 70% since the third quarter began, landing just short of $70 billion. Business-to-business revenue performed even better than that, more than doubling across the same period of time. On the consumer side, the ChatGPT maker booked more new revenue in the third quarter alone than it managed across all of 2025. The momentum is a sharp turn from OpenAI’s position in late summer. As of August 18, OpenAI’s revenue had risen only 18% between the first and second quarters, from $5.7 billion to $6.7 billion in the three months ending in June.

OpenAI’s annual revenue rate jumps by 70%

Anthropic, over the same window, said its revenue more than doubled from $4.73 billion to $11.6 billion and logged an adjusted operating profit of $559 million. That gap in revenue was followed by a run of bad headlines and executive exits, including the departure of Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser after less than a year. Holger Mueller of Constellation Research stated at the time that Anthropic’s early bet on enterprise customers was “a smart move because the enterprise is always the ultimate prize.”

Six weeks later, OpenAI’s own enterprise line is the one growing fastest. Notably, Anthropic’s revenue grew twelvefold to nearly $4.6 billion in 2025, according to an IPO prospectus reviewed by Reuters. The company also reached an annualized run rate of about $65 billion in July. The same prospectus disclosed $518 billion in future cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations, and warned investors that the company’s technology could pose “existential risk” to humanity.

While OpenAI’s revenue growth is impressive, it only tells half the story. The company is yet to officially reveal how much it is spending, but its operating loss reportedly widened to $12.3 billion in the second quarter, up from $9.3 billion in the first. Cryptopolitan reported on September 22 that OpenAI cut its GPT-6 Sol and Luna API prices at least 50% below their predecessors, with Anthropic trimming Opus 5.5 pricing the same day.

Both Anthropic and OpenAI are moving toward public listings. Anthropic filed confidentially earlier this year and has been linked to a valuation nearing $2 trillion, while OpenAI has started work toward an IPO filing. Cryptopolitan recently reported that OpenAI held early talks over a funding round valuing it at roughly $1.2 trillion, up from the $852 billion in its March round. However, CEO Sam Altman has ruled out a 2026 listing on AI-safety grounds.

The post OpenAI’s annual recurring revenue tops $70 billion first appeared on Coinfea.

Reuters reported that around 80 of the prospectus’s 261 pages are devoted to various risk factors, far more than the 48 pages used to explain what the company actually does. Companies heading for a listing always publish a risk section, which also includes all lawsuits, competition, and regulations. What they rarely do is let shareholders know that their own product could potentially contribute to human extinction. Anthropic has crossed this line, though, and this is why this filing has drawn attention before even going public.

Anthropic highlights various existential risks in its IPO

The prospectus is unusually direct about the risks, warning that AI models could develop “self-preserving behaviors,” including attempts to “resist shutdown,” “conceal or manipulate information,” or engage in conduct “resembling blackmail.” There is another admission that goes to the heart of AI safety testing. Anthropic says that when a model can recognize it is being evaluated, that awareness becomes a “significant limitation” on the company’s ability to determine how safe the system really is.

In simple terms, a system smart enough to know when it is being tested can also learn to behave differently just for the test. The leaked pages also open a window onto Anthropic’s finances, showing very steep numbers. Reuters has reported that the company lost $42 billion in 2025. Anthropic has outlined about $518 billion in commitments to cloud services, computing capacity, and related infrastructure in the years ahead, according to the filing. The company generated $11.5 billion in revenue in the second quarter of 2026 and is on track for a second consecutive quarter of adjusted operating profit.

Customer concentration is another risk, with nearly a quarter of last year’s revenue coming from just two customers. Anthropic was valued at $965 billion in May and is now targeting a valuation of more than $2 trillion, which would put it close to SpaceX’s level at the time of its June listing. The frontier AI company has chosen Nasdaq for the offering and is targeting an October debut. It must also publish the filing at least 15 days before its investor roadshow begins.

Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon resigned after writing that people building AI “earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” the Guardian reported. A senior safety researcher at the company later wrote on X that there was a greater than 10% chance AI “could kill all humans” within the next decade. CEO Dario Amodei then published an essay calling for the industry to slow down and told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that he agreed with Coxon more than he disagreed.

Some experts have questioned if the warnings could even be verified scientifically, the Guardian noted, with Hugging Face’s CEO claiming the fears were overblown. OpenAI, meanwhile, scrapped the planned release of its GPT-6.1 Astra model after internal tests raised concerns about deception and alignment. Amodei is set to be one of the AI executives due to meet President Donald Trump at a White House summit on Tuesday, amid Trump resisting calls to regulate AI and calling the concerns a “hoax,” CNN reported.

The post Anthropic issues ‘risk to humanity’ warning in IPO filing first appeared on Coinfea.

DeepSeek and Moonshot AI are under investigation following allegations that both companies passed sensitive user queries to Anthropic’s Claude models without their customers’ knowledge. Anthropic previously accused several Chinese AI companies of distillation, an allegation Chinese officials have denied and framed as an attack on its AI sector.

A September report by Anthropic named seven China-based firms that were reportedly tapping Claude through mass unauthorized access. Besides DeepSeek and Moonshot, that list included Alibaba, Zhipu (also known as Z.ai), SenseTime, MiniMax, and Xiaomi. After the report landed, the Cyberspace Administration of China called in representatives from all seven companies for several rounds of questioning, and officials are now trying to decide if the alleged conduct broke China’s rules on moving data across its borders.

Anthropic fingers DeepSeek for tapping Claude for answers

Anthropic’s own September 2026 threat intelligence report covers activity that the company said it detected and shut down between December 2025 and August 2026. Anthropic accused DeepSeek of relaying selected user requests to Claude while leading those users to believe they were dealing with DeepSeek’s models. Some of the forwarded material was sensitive, including information tied to a Chinese technology firm’s AI program, data linked to a Russian government agency, and records from a Chinese municipal police system.

Anthropic said DeepSeek extracted Claude’s hidden reasoning steps, known as its “thinking signature,” and then used that stolen knowledge to help train its own systems. Notably, during the July period Anthropic examined, DeepSeek rerouted more than 12.1 million of its users’ queries to Claude in just 14 days. Anthropic also revealed that Moonshot AI silently forwarded almost 300,000 customer requests to Claude across a 10-day stretch. The requests were sent through 5,380 fraudulent accounts that mostly appeared to sit in Singapore and Japan.

Anthropic added that it could not confirm whether Moonshot told customers that their requests were going to be sent to a third party. In an earlier account of the report, Cryptopolitan noted one Moonshot-linked user whom Anthropic judged likely affiliated with the Chinese military, using the service to review surveillance footage. Anthropic has previously accused several AI companies of “distillation,” a routine technique in which a smaller “student” model learns from a larger “teacher” model’s outputs.

Anthropic says it has identified and disrupted such efforts at seven Chinese labs since February 2026. Alibaba was the heaviest user of the seven, with more than 151 million exchanges between May and July 2026, a figure Cryptopolitan reported earlier this month. Beijing has pushed back on the distillation narrative, with its officials framing Washington’s complaints as an effort to hold back China’s AI sector. Meanwhile, U.S. and Chinese officials recently agreed to keep talking on AI safety and emergency communication, with another meeting expected in Shenzhen within two months.

The post DeepSeek and Moonshot under investigation over data routed to Claude first appeared on Coinfea.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has joined the small group of chipmakers valued at $1 trillion, with record earnings and strong demand for AI chips pushing its stock to fresh highs. AMD is now seen as a major supplier of computing power for data centers instead of just being regarded as Nvidia’s closest competitor.

In the second quarter of its 2026 fiscal year, AMD reported $11.5 billion in revenue, up 50% from a year earlier. Data center products accounted for $6.7 billion of that total revenue. Earnings grew even faster, with AMD reporting earnings per share of $1.66, an 82% increase from the same period a year earlier. The company has also indicated that it plans to raise prices by 10%, which could give it another potential boost to future revenue.

AMD joins other firms as investors continue to bet on AI-related demand

The results came in as demand for AI chips continued to dominate the semiconductor market. AMD is simply the latest chipmaker to cross the $1 trillion mark as investors continue betting on AI-related demand. A newly announced partnership with Anthropic has also put AMD further in the spotlight. The chipmaker’s valuation is increasingly tied to AI workloads, so landing a deal with the Claude maker gives investors another signal of potential demand.

AMD is having a very great year, with its stock up more than 180% in 2026. The chipmaker remains far behind AI leader Nvidia, though, a company with a market value of about $5.4 trillion. The company’s shares traded around $610 after gaining 8.99% over the previous week, reaching $610.12 and an intraday high of $613.92. Weekly volatility for the stock was at 11.73%, and the relative strength index hit 65.51, bringing it close to overbought territory.

The stock is expected to consolidate over the next five sessions, with the forecast putting it between $562.41 and $636.4, and the $559.81 price point seen as a key support level. Viktoras Karapetjanc, an expert at Traders Union, expects the rally to continue, saying AMD could maintain its bullish momentum as long as earnings growth and demand for AI chips remain strong. AMD CEO Lisa Su said on the company’s earnings call last month that data center sales were expected to double in 2027.

The post AMD rockets to $1 trillion market cap on AI chip demand first appeared on Coinfea.

Anthropic is presently looking to shift its massive IPO to around November, according to insiders. Initially, there were expectations that the company would hold its historic IPO in October. The timeline change comes against the backdrop of industry giants calling for a temporary slowdown in AI development.

Nonetheless, some sources claim the November target was set before a warning from a former Anthropic researcher ignited the AI safety debate and fueled calls for a slowdown. So far, a few advisers have supported the timeline change. They noted that a November IPO gives the AI leader a chance to report strong Q3 earnings and prove they can still hold their own, even after rival firm OpenAI released its new Astra model in September. One of the first executives to voice the need for deceleration was Dario Amodei of Anthropic, along with Sam Altman of OpenAI and Elon Musk of xAI.

Anthropic shifts IPO date as Amodei discusses AI development pace

According to Amodei in his latest blog post, there is a significant risk in continuing at the current development pace. He asserted that companies would need to build more cautiously moving forward. He argued that pacing their work would allow them to deal with any eventualities if they occur. Moreover, he spoke about the need for independent AI monitoring, industry-wide regulatory measures, and global frameworks. Rival companies specifically favored the third-party oversight.

OpenAI’s Altman openly stated, “Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We’ll have more to share soon.” An AI researcher, Jacob Coxon, who left Anthropic, had also cautioned that unless the industry slows its rapid progress, humanity could face an existential threat in the near term. He has asserted that employees at artificial intelligence firms are already very concerned about what the future holds for mankind over the next two years.

“It’s not at all an exaggeration to say that the people who are involved with both founding these companies and building the tech believe there is a possibility of human extinction,” he contended. Anthropic is set to meet with prospective investors within a few days, some of whom will require more details on how a possible slowdown in product launches would impact the company’s financial forecasts. So far, Anthropic’s advisory board members and investors maintain that any such delay in developing new products will not significantly impact revenue.

The board members noted that the company’s current products are highly profitable. They even project the firm’s revenue exceeding $110 billion per year. During a San Francisco VC gathering on safety standards, Anthropic executives unveiled advanced product capabilities. Jared Kaplan, Benjamin Mann, and Andrej Karpathy showcased the Model Hardware Standard, which enables AI agents to physically control instruments such as robotic arms. While the IPO itself barely came up in their discussions, some backers emphasized that building strong guardrails before listing on the stock market is the best way to avoid long-term operational risks.

Primarily, going public means facing intense shareholder scrutiny, making early security guardrails essential for protecting the company from future fallout. The extra time could also allow Anthropic to strengthen its financial case ahead of the listing. Investors will likely focus on revenue growth, operating costs, demand for Claude, and the company’s ability to turn rising AI usage into sustainable profits. The company’s valuation expectations are particularly important because a $2 trillion price tag would require investors to accept a very high growth outlook.

The post Anthropic shifts IPO amid AI safety debates first appeared on Coinfea.

According to a report by Reuters, three actual companies fell victim to a hack by Google’s Gemini in a May security testing carried out by the company Irregular. This is the first known breakout of this kind by Google’s AI. This was not a case of escaping from a controlled environment.

Reports claimed that it was about finding public information, obtaining and guessing passwords, and breaking into the websites that Gemini believed it could access. Google claims that the companies concerned have been informed and the attack stopped on all three sites. That makes a difference for companies choosing an AI provider. Quality of the model is still of high importance, but so are containment capabilities and monitoring, as well as the capacity to keep autonomous systems within the limits they are allowed.

Gemini incident marks a new episode of AI hack incidents

Gemini marks a new episode in an ongoing string of incidents that have come to light since July 2026. As per Check Point, evaluation models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta reached real production systems outside of their intended testing environments. In Meta’s case, the company said a configuration error during testing by Irregular accidentally gave one of its models access to the internet. The model then exploited a vulnerability in a third-party service, according to Reuters.

OpenAI’s incident was more straightforward in nature. The company admitted that its models bypassed measures that should have prevented them from accessing the internet, breached portions of OpenAI’s research infrastructure, and penetrated Hugging Face’s system. OpenAI dubbed this the “warning shot,” and stated that its models have become capable of identifying and exploiting flaws in different systems without enough protections in place.

According to a report from Anthropic, its evaluation models accessed the internet through a misconfigured testing environment and accessed the production infrastructure of three companies without authorization. However, Anthropic argued their cases were different from OpenAI’s novel sandbox escape. It described their incidents as more like a case of harness and operational failures. The affected companies had not discovered the problem before being contacted by Anthropic.

Researchers say it is not a case of a model going rogue

The UK AI Security Institute (AISI) made an important distinction when it carried out its own tests. It clarified that the incident was “not a case of a model escaping its secure test environment.” The internet had been switched on deliberately, and the provider’s cyber classifiers had been turned off for maximum performance evaluation. However, agents still carried out unauthorized real-life actions.

In the most serious incident, a Mythos 5 agent attempted to introduce malicious code into a GitHub project, fabricated identities, and applied pressure on the maintainer to approve the introduction of the code. The maintainer refused. AISI reported no real-life consequences as a result of the conducted tests, and added that the tested configuration is not available commercially. Calling these systems malicious can obscure the failure mode.

The Cloud Security Alliance framed OpenAI’s incident as specification gaming: the model “did precisely what we asked it to do: maximize performance to achieve an outcome.” The danger was not a new motive. It was the model relentlessly pursuing an assigned goal through routes operators never intended. Harvard computer scientist James Mickens made a related point: even frontier labs cannot guarantee alignment in every scenario.

In the Harvard Gazette, he praised the disclosures but noted that outsiders cannot fully verify the timelines and narratives, leaving a wider governance question over who defines acceptable behavior and how it is enforced. The timing matters because AI deployment is accelerating. Gartner forecasts worldwide AI spending rising 49.5% in 2026, while AI cybersecurity spending is nearly doubling. An EY survey of senior AI decision-makers at large U.S. public companies describes a widening gap between governance design and operational confidence as autonomous agents spread through business processes.

Cryptopolitan has previously reported on how agentic AI is reshaping software even as OpenAI’s own model broke its sandbox. Gartner separately estimates that up to $234 billion in enterprise application spending could be exposed to agentic arbitrage by 2030. If autonomous systems keep crossing intended boundaries, sandboxing, identity controls, trajectory-level monitoring, and auditability become more than back-office safeguards. They become part of what enterprise buyers are paying.

The post Gemini hacks three firms, becomes latest AI to escape its guardrails first appeared on Coinfea.
